Art that calls your name.
My art is expressive, conveying an emotional response. I want my paintings to call your name--- sparking recollections, sensations, and sweet memories. I’m excited to share my current series: Reweavings and Floriography.

Reweaving
Reweaving is a series of woven paintings. Weaving techniques are considered one of our oldest cultural practices, taking inspiration from the natural world, such as bird’s nests, intertwined plants, and spider’s webs. These paper weaves represent intersections of the past and the present. The warp and weft patterns represent the struggle to create a new life and let go of the past.
The papers are created with a variety of types of paint, papers, colors, and patterns. These papers are cut into weaving strips and then woven into classic weaving patterns. Particular strips of paper are selected to reflect the overall feeling of the piece. I’ve experimented with different kinds of edges to convey the unfinished character of these reweavings. Some of the weavings are embellished with threads, punches, and metallics.
For the bird’s nests, I started by painting the canvas with a color I wouldn’t normally use. These bright colors serve as the backdrop for the nests and eggs. The overlapping mark making and scraps of collage paper of these paintings suggest the intricate structures birds weave together with a diverse range of natural and human-made materials.

Floriography
Floriography is a series about the language of flowers, using the symbolic meanings of flowers and their colors to tap into our memories. We have strong associations with our favorites and flowers are powerful reminders of specific events and people.
Watercolor is perfect for conveying the translucent quality of flowers. I like to feature a close up of a single bloom. I begin by painting the background and then build up the color and tonal values of the flowers with multiple layers. The flower is the star, and the background plays a supporting role. These are loosely painted in an expressive style. I mounted these watercolors on panel board and finished them with mats and adhesive pads.

Five trees with a heart in the center., top the green slope where I'll meet you there." I have lain under those trees and peace has blanketed me. Pam Benoit's painting gives me great comfort, as I am alive in its green pastures. What a treasure!
